Charlottesville Immigrant Solidarity Events

Local citizens and immigrants have been meeting since August of last year. Among the events they have organized have been a presentation by Ricardo Juarez of Mexicans Without Borders attended by 175 people, the first regional immigrant solidarity gathering of the group that later became the Virginia Immigrant People's Coalition, inviting the citizen community to attend the religious festival of Las Posadas as a cultural sharing event.
Currently the group is preparing a "know-your-rights" and raid readiness training, and producing the first issue of "Sabes Que?" a monthly Spanish language news bulletin with an emphasis on local issues affecting the immigrant community.
